Malcolm Galloway advises public and private sector clients on commercial strategy.

Malcolm Galloway advises business owners, property developers, government agencies, not-for-profits and organisations across a broad range of commercial and finance matters. His practice includes business contracts, commercial leasing, property development, shareholder agreements, and buying or selling businesses and shares.

With more than two decades of experience, he brings a calm, practical approach to complex transactions. He is known for his sound judgment, strategic thinking, and a quietly delivered sense of humour that puts clients at ease. He helps people cut through complexity, manage risk, and move forward with confidence.

Malcolm regularly assists with commercial structuring, lending and finance documentation, compliance for incorporated societies, and property related matters such as subdivisions, acquisitions, and leasing.

Before joining Gibson Sheat, he spent 21 years at a respected Wellington general practice, progressing from office assistant to partner. He was admitted to the bar in 2005 and has built long standing relationships with clients across a wide range of industries, sectors, and organisations. He also continues to advise a loyal base of private clients who have followed him throughout his career.

Malcolm is a board member of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and a member of the New Zealand Law Society’s Property Law Section. He is also involved in the local community through St Margaret’s Church in Silverstream and as president of the Wellington Pipers’ Club.

Outside of work, he is a lifelong competitive bagpiper who has travelled extensively with New Zealand pipe bands. He enjoys spending time with his family, especially skiing, swimming, biking, and playing tennis with his two daughters. When time allows, he enjoys listening to music or reading, ideally something without any fine print.
