Ben Smith

Ben Smith is a Solicitor in our Commercial team, advising across commercial and sports law matters. He works with sports organisations, incorporated societies, not-for-profits and businesses on commercial contracts, business structuring, shareholder arrangements, and governance compliance.

Ben assists incorporated societies with constitutional reviews, regulatory obligations, and governance best practice, including preparation for legislative change. He also supports sporting bodies and participants on integrity and regulatory issues, working closely with senior members of our sports law team.

Ben holds an LLB and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Taxation. He was admitted to the bar in 2023.

Before joining Gibson Sheat, Ben worked as a Senior Tax Consultant at Deloitte in the corporate tax team, advising clients across a range of industries including telecommunications, private equity and infrastructure. This experience gives him a strong understanding of financial risk, commercial structures, and the practical realities facing growing organisations.

Ben is a proud Cantabrian and outside of work, he enjoys staying active, and spending time with friends and family.
